centaurus Technology
Our centaurus technology is based on rear-side passivation through a dielectric layer and a local aluminum back-surface field (Al-LBSF). This improved cell structure results in a significant reduction in recombination losses on the cell rear side as the contact areas between silicon and contact metal is reduced significantly without majorly affecting contact resistivity.
In combination with selective emitter technology, centaurus solar cells achieve efficiency levels of up to 19.5% on mono-crystalline and up to 17.5% on multi-crystalline silicon wafers.
Three additional production steps are required for the implementation of centaurus technology in the solar cell manufacturing process – the wet-chemical smoothing of the textured rear side and the formation and partial opening of the dielectric layer. However, one process step is omitted from conventional solar cell technology. The entire process sequence is carried out with commonplace production equipment and metallization is achieved using proven screen printing technology.
